Ysgol Y Castell Erasmus Champions - Digital Competence in Action
Ysgol Y Castell have recently completed an amazing 3 year DCF collaborative project with schools from Wales, Spain and Romania.
This has involved working with 4 other schools from the Rhyl area, 3 schools from Spain and 3 schools from Romania. The project allowed staff to visit each country to job-shadow teachers in their schools and take part in teacher training activities. It also provided amazing experiences for pupils to visit each of the 3 countries to work on collaborative DCF projects and to experience the rich language and culture.
The focus of our project was to raise standards in Digital Competence for pupils, staff and parents alike. Through the creation of teaching resources, training opportunities and a new professional network to share good practise we can confidently say that Ysgol Y Castell has achieved the project aims and the Erasmus Project was a resounding success!
As part of the project our school appointed pupils to be Erasmus Champions. These Champions have been busy working together to develop their confidence, skills and knowledge when using Digital Resources. They have been fantastic in supporting other pupils in the school within their DCF lessons and supporting staff in their teaching.
As part of the project, school has established an extra-curricular Code Club. This has proved to be very popular and the level of work completed has been of a very high standard. We have received visiting staff from other schools who wish to see the pupils work and the Champions have completed special coding assignments for GwE (North Wales School Improvement Service).
Ysgol Y Castell have since been awarded the Technocamps Silver Schools Award and a third of the teaching staff have received Technocamps Accredited Teacher Status. A number of staff have also gone on to becoming Minecraft Educators and achieving Adobe Level 1 status following training through HWB.
